Woman files claim against attorney
A CUNUPIA woman has filed a claim in the High Court to get back $292,243.49 from a female Port of Spain attorney who handled the family’s Estate. The claim, filed by attorneys from the firm, Martin George and Co, comes up for hearing in April before Justice Joan Charles. The claim alleges the attorney consistently failed and/or refused to account for the money which was supposed to be distributed among the beneficiaries of an Estate of a man who died in 2011. Court agrees with Health Ministry against nursing bodies
SIGNIFICANT portions of the judicial review claim of three nursing bodies against the Minister of Health have been struck out by the High Court judge hearing the matter. On Friday, Justice Devindra Rampersad gave his decision on evidential objections raised by the minister, striking out entire portions of the TT Registered Nurses Association (TTRNA), the Midwives Association (TTMA) and the Psychiatric Nurses Association (PNATT)’s claim. He also struck out several lines of the claim which questioned the minister’s authority to appoint selected members to the Nursing Council on October 7, 2019, before any elected members were appointed. Doctor calls for resignation of Medical Board over handling of Sawh controversy
A call is being made for the resignation of the Medical Board of Trinidad and Tobago over its handling of a doctor caught berating and making racist remarks to a female employee several months ago. It comes from Dr Andre Alleyne, who on Thursday, staged a small demonstration outside the board’s office located at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex. Dr Alleyne lamented the board’s shortcomings in taking disciplinary action against Dr Avinash Sawh. Doctor calls for Medical Board to resign over Sawh slurs
Dr Andre Alleyne is calling for the Medical Board to resign for “mishandling” the matter involving Dr Avinash Sawh. Sawh came under heavy public scrutiny after he was heard slinging racist and derogatory comments at one of his employees over a phone call last November. In the recording, when the employee threatened to have the police intervene, Sawh referred to policemen as “dunce n---ers” and Afro-Trinidadians as “monkeys.” Sawh later apologised to the woman and anyone else offended by his comments. Legal win for Tobago maxi drivers
With schools set to reopen on Monday, 31 Tobago maxi taxi drivers yesterday claimed a legal victory over the Tobago House of Assembly regarding the provision of transport for school children. This was confirmed by attorney Martin George, who represented drivers. George had filed a judicial review application against the THA on behalf of the 31 drivers.
