FORMER contract teacher Farley Augustine is calling on Secretary for Education, Innovation and Energy, Kelvin Charles to “end victimisation season” and pay all gratuities owed immediately. This comes after Friday’s ruling by Justice David Harris in the High Court ordering the Tobago House of Assembly (THA) to immediately pay contract teachers all outstanding payments, plus interest. Augustine, one of the litigants and currently serving as a Minority Assemblyman, said he felt really excited that justice will finally be served. “I feel like the next step will be for the THA is to pay me for the period of my contract ending 2018. “Hopefully, the...

Tobago teachers win in court, George declares: Kelvin must fire Kelvin

Attorney Martin George is calling on THA Chief Secretary Kelvin Charles to remove himself as Secretary of Education. This comes on the heels of a decision delivered in the High Court on Friday by Justice David Harris ordering the THA to immediately pay contract teachers all outstanding payments, plus interest. The teachers throughout Tobago won a constitutional motion which they filed against the THA for their rights to all gratuity payments and money owed to them. They claimed for a declaration of inequality of treatment. The teachers said the THA had treated them unequally, compared to the permanent teachers in Tobago, and also...

The judge ordered the THA to immediately pay contract teachers all outstanding payments, plus interest. The Tobago teachers, represented by Martin George and Company, won a constitutional motion which they filed in 2017 against the...

Attorney tells THA Chief Sec to fire himself

Attorney at Law Martin George is calling for THA chief secretary and secretary for Education Kelvin Charles to fire himself after a judgement was handed down last Friday, demanding that the THA pay outstanding monies and gratuities owed to all contract teachers on the island. Speaking at a news conference held at his Bacolet office on Monday, George said, it was determined that the THA treated the 14 teachers unequally compared to the permanent teachers on the island, as well as contract teachers in Trinidad; by paying them less and not allowing them the same amount of leave, vacation, benefits, and...
