George: TRHA ‘a renegade totally out of control’

Tobago Business Chamber chairman Martin George is calling for all the Regional Health Authorities to be under one umbrella managed by the Ministry of Health. George was responding to a recent Guardian report about a $70 million Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory for heart patients in Tobago, which has not been utilised for five years. Patients who have to undergo heart procedures are sent to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex in Trinidad for treatment. Chamber: Expedite grants while tourism stagnant

The Tobago Business Chamber is calling on the central government to speed up the promised covid19 grant payments. After Newsday sent a question on Monday, the chamber’s chairman Martin George, in a Whatsapp voice note, expressed its solidarity and support for the members of the business community in Tobago, who he said were “hardest hit” by the effects of covid19 and subsequent measures. Son-in-law loses battle over Benz

An estate constable has been ordered to deliver the $.7 million Mercedes Benz he had in his possession to the compound of his father-in-law’s company. While there, the car is however to remain in storage and only driven to be taken for servicing. Mother awarded $1.6m in case against SWRHA

The South West Regional Health Authority (SWRHA) has been ordered to pay a little over $1.6 million in compensation to the mother of a welder, who died of complications related to a “flesh-eating bacteria” after being twice misdiagnosed at the Princes Town District Health Facility in 2014. High Court Judge Avason Quinlan-Williams found the SWRHA and by extension its staff negligent in Navin Singh’s death in February, but only assessed the compensation to be paid to his mother Bhagwantee Singh-Weekes, last Friday.
