BREACH OF DUTY IN BABY’S DEATH COURT SAYS WHY IT DISMISSED APPEAL:

One year after dismissing an appeal lodged by the South-West Regional Health Authority (SWRHA), questioning a High Court judge's decision to award more than $.3 million in damages to a Penal woman, the Appeal Court yesterday gave written reasons for dismissing the appeal. The panel,which comprised of Justices Allan Mendonca, Peter Jamadar and Nolan Bereaux, in a 38-page ruling, outlined the reasons for dismissing the appeal brought by the SWRHA against Samdaye Harrilal, who levelled allegations of negligence against the SWRHA following the death of her baby. FIVE DOCTORS and four nurses of the Obstetrics and Gynaecology (O&G) Department of the San Fernando General Hospital (SFGH) have been suspended, pending a full investigation into the death of Carapichaima housewife Chrystal Boodoo-Ramsoomair at the maternity ward on Carnival Friday, March 4. An investigation will also be conducted into the still-birth of a baby boy whose mother Simone Critchlow-Taylor went into labour at the hospital last Saturday.
