AMEND LAW FOR DOCTORS TO REPORT QUESTIONABLE MEDICAL MATTERS
Attorney at Law Martin George says amendments need to be made to the law that governs doctor/patient confidentiality.
Commenting on the cocaine surgery matter, he said doctors are aware of unlawful offences taking place and they should be mandated to report them.
“We might need to look at amending the law to make a requirement, a mandatory legal requirement, for doctors to report because at present, what you have really is basically a moral and ethical responsibility under the terms of the Hippocratic Oath.”
Meanwhile Medical Practitioner Dr. Rai Ragbir said ignorance of the law is not an excuse.
“As a physician, whether it be a child molestation case, a stab wound, bullet wound or narcotics, the fact is ignorance of the law is no excuse.”
