MAGCO celebrates its 30th Anniversary.

Martin George & Company > Events, Occasions, Anniversaries and Celebrations  > MAGCO celebrates its 30th Anniversary.

MAGCO celebrates its 30th Anniversary.

It has been a long journey spanning thirty (30) years, countless sleepless nights, trials, tribulations, obstacles and frustrations, but it has also been one of happiness, joy, triumph and success. Setting about trying to carve a niche and to make a mark in the local landscape of Law Firms is not an easy task as there are many major players and Titans around. Setting out to do so as a young boy from Tobago, without that network of support, encouragement or Mentorship is doubly daunting – but one thing was always clear – the desire to be an Employer and not an Employee, the desire to create Employment rather than seek Employment and the desire to leave a Legacy in the form of a Law Firm so that those who follow, have a solid foundation upon which to build, so they don’t have to start back from zero.

The problem of successive generations having to always start back at zero has bedeviled certain sections of our National community and the desire to break this vicious cycle has always been part of the thinking and vision of MAGCO. Empowering their Attorneys and Staff is part of the DNA of MAGCO. Teaching them about Business, sharing pointers and tips on Property Development and Real Estate has always been part of the entire Learning experience at MAGCO and this has seen the Firm grow, to now comprise of seven Attorneys and twelve Administrative/Ancillary staff members, with Offices both in Port of Spain and Scarborough and a sub-Office in Dominica.

It was as a culmination of this, that the celebration of MAGCO’S thirty years of existence was born. The event took place on 15th October and it was an epic celebration entitled “A French Affair”, with about 300 guests, dressed in white, and who included Members of the Judiciary, the Legal Profession, including Senior Counsel Russell Martineau, members of the Medical fraternity, including Dr. Tiffany Hoyte, Dr. Nalini Kokaram, Dr. Sherene Kalloo, Government Ministers including Honourable Minister Donna Cox, Senators including Dr. Varma Deyalsingh, former Government Ministers such as Vasant Bharath, and many other VIP Guests along with staff members, friends, Family and many other well wishers.

Guests arrived at a grand entrance featuring a huge trellis and French-style fretwork decorated by Ms. Alicia Motie with help from MAGCO staff. Then there was a huge banner of the Eiffel Tower and another featuring the Arc de Triumph. These were stops for photo ops and then guests were ushered along the red carpet Hollywood-style, where the “paparazzi” took their photos and e mailed them to the guests directly. Other popular photo spots were the Parisian street scene, where guests were able to sit at a bistro table with the French street scene in the background, looking like they were actually in the middle of Paris; and the Moet antique cart and Champagne wall were also top selfie-spots.

SSAmong the guests having a blast were several businesspersons and Captains of Industry such as Angostura CEO Ian Forbes, former president of the JCC, Mikey Joseph and Balliram Maharaj CEO of ADM and Hearty Foods and former President of the Supermarkets Association and Aziz Ramsingh, CEO of Caribbean Glass.

International Celebrity Chef Deborah Sardinha Metivier served up delectable and scrumptious array and a gorgeous display of French-themed Epicurean delights with mussels, shrimp, lamb, crostinis, truffles, eclairs and macaroons. The Angostura bar, with its Cocktails and specialty rums were a hit, and the drinks and Champagne were flowing as freely and as abundantly as the top-shelf drinks and the Stag and Carib draft beer, and it was really a wonderful night of celebration for the MAGCO Team and the MAGCO Family, as they look forward to another thirty years and more.
