Once again, the Mt Hope Maternity Hospital is in the news—and not in a positive light. Hospital administrator Dr Esau Joseph confirmed that the autoclave sterilising equipment broke down and they were trying to repair it. Dr Tim Gopeesingh has been quoted as saying that this was inexcusable for any hospital. Health Minister John Rahael, who has been making a fantastic effort to improve health care standards, was understandably appalled that the hospital’s administrators did not have sufficient working equipment.
