Former PSC Member Laments “Conundrum” In CoP Appointment

Appointing a Commissioner of Police in Trinidad and Tobago is much more difficult than appointing some of the highest positions of the land.

This, according to Attorney-at-Law Martin George who says the situation is untenable as Thursday’s High Court ruling declared unlawful the Acting appointment of former Commissioner Gary Griffith.

Mr. George says there must be a quick move from the Executive to put this situation right.

The Attorney says it begins with the speedy appointment of the Police Service Commission who would then install an acting Police Commissioner.

He believes the legislation needs to be fixed to prevent opportunities for legal loopholes and legal challenges and to simplify the process of appointing a Commissioner of Police.
