POLICE SERVICE MUST BE TRUTHFUL WITH PUBLIC
Concerns have been expressed that public trust in the police service has suffered a major blow.
Commissioner in the Police Service Commission, Martin George has stated that in order to deal with this issue the police service needs to be truthful with the public.
He revealed that the lack of information on major cases has resulted in a block between the public and police authorities.
In an effort to improve the operations of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) Minister of National Security Gary Griffith has met with the Deputy Commissioner of the New York Police Department (NYPD),John Miller. The meeting explored the goal of twinning the two authorities.
The rationale behind the initiative is that the TTPS would be provided with the experience and knowledge transfer through interaction with officers of the NYPD.
However Mr. George disclosed that certain questions would be raised.
Mr. George further stated that operationally, the TTPS had a lot to do to be on par with the NYPD, and that this could present problems with the plan.
